Categories

Group related services so customers can find the right one quickly.

Categories organize your services for browsing on category pages, service listings, and navigation. Good categories answer the customer question "where would I look for this?"

What a category contains

  • A name and description customers see when browsing.
  • The services assigned to it (set on each service, under its Category field).
  • A disable switch that hides the category from customers without deleting it.

Keeping categories useful

  • Aim for a handful of clearly different categories. Two overlapping categories ("Cleaning" and "Home Cleaning") make customers guess.
  • Name them the way customers speak, not the way the business is organized internally.
  • Check what's inside after renaming. A category called "Laundry" full of cleaning services confuses everyone.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving an empty category visible. If its services moved or were disabled, disable the category too.
  • Creating a new category for every promotion. Categories are long-lived structure; promotions belong on the homepage.
  • Deleting a category that services still point to. Reassign the services first, or disable the category instead.

Order of operations when reorganizing

Moving services between categories? Update the services first, then rename or disable the old category. That way nothing is ever orphaned where customers can see it.
